History of the Fifa World Cup Trophy

The World Cup trophy is one of the most prestigious and recognizable awards in international soccer. It is awarded to the winners of the FIFA World Cup, which is held every four years and is contested by the national teams of countries belonging to FIFA (the International Federation of Association Football).

The current World Cup trophy was designed by the Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga and was first presented at the 1974 World Cup in Germany. It is made of 18 carat gold, stands 36.8 centimeters tall, and weighs 6.175 kilograms (13.61 pounds). The trophy is shaped like a cone with a base in the form of a plinth. The base is made of malachite, a bright green mineral, and is inscribed with the names of every team that has ever won the World Cup.

The trophy features two human figures holding up the Earth, which is depicted as a soccer ball. The figures are intended to represent the unity and diversity of the world’s peoples, with one figure representing the Americas and the other representing the rest of the world.

Jules Rimet Trophy

The World Cup trophy has a long and storied history, with the first World Cup taking place in 1930 in Uruguay. The trophy for that tournament, known as the Jules Rimet Trophy, was commissioned by FIFA and designed by the French sculptor Abel Lafleur. It was made of gold-plated sterling silver and depicted a winged goddess holding a ball. The Jules Rimet Trophy was awarded to the winning team at each World Cup until 1970, when Brazil won the trophy outright after winning their third tournament.

In the years since the first World Cup, the World Cup trophy has become one of the most coveted prizes in soccer and a symbol of international sporting excellence. It is held in high regard by players and fans alike and is a source of pride for the country that wins it.
